easy karma

I follow the st. thomas dog owner's association blog. They have made an appeal, on behalf of rescue agencies, for blankets (among other things). They have been inondated with puppies recently. I guess people bred puppies to make some extra cash for christmas and then when they didn't sell, they ended up dumping them. There was a recent story of a 7-week old husky puppy found dumped in a box with a broken leg. We actually met the ADORABLE puppy at Global Pet Foods store. What a heartbreak.

When I read that the rescue agencies needed used blankets for puppies, I thought "what an easy thing to do!". My sister and I have always had a slight obsession with fleece blankets. We would stop using them as soon as they got a little pilled. A puppy rescued from a cold basement does not care if it is pilled. The rescue shelters just need blankets (or old towels!) so the dogs have something soft to sleep on. From my days working at Fabricland, I happen to know that fleece cleans easily and very well. It also dries quickly. Perfect for untrained puppies!

I am sure shelters in your area are experiencing the same thing. Everyone has old blankets and towels. Get a little extra karma and donate a blanket or two.

PS: for those in the London/St. Thomas area, you can drop off your blanket donations at k9 concepts, which is on Sunset Drive (just south of Talbotville, I believe). Your donations will go to to All Breed Rescue.
